Random Things

12 02 2009

Since I’m still sick, cop-out post incomming.  This has been roaming around the internet for a while, so I’m going to give in and give you 25 random things about me.

  1. I have a weakness for food.  I have never lasted on any diet for more than 2 weeks without cheating.  The longest I have stuck with a diet is 4 weeks and the last week is usually really bad.
  2. I am lazy.  I am VERY lazy.  There are few things I would rather do than sit on the couch and watch TV, and most of them involve crafting which can be done while sitting on the couch watching TV.
  3. I would love to go to school for the rest of my life.  I love learning new things.  It would be great if I could find someone to pay my tuition forever.
  4. I still have my teddy bear from childhood.  I still sleep with him sometimes when The Hubby isn’t home.
  5. I have an irrational love of the color purple (yes, the color, not the movie).  My car is purple, I have more purple fabric and yarn in my stash than any other color (probably any 2 other colors combined), if I had my way the whole house would be painted purple.
  6. I have recently begun reading webcomics and I really dig them.  The ones I read regularly include: xkcd, Looking For Group, Least I Could Do, User Friendly, Penny Arcade, PvP, Starslip, F Chords, and The Scout Report.
  7. I refuse to travel during the holidays.  Anyone who wants to come visit me is welcome but I will not travel.  I wish I had an intersting story for that but it just boils down to the fact that I want to be at home.
  8. I’m a sucker for Popeyes, espcially their wraps.
  9. I have 7 pictures of The Hubby and me in my office.  There is only one that is more recent than 2002.  I was waaaaaaay skinnier back then.
  10. My job is terribly boring but it pays the bills.
  11. Van Gogh is my favorite artist.
  12. I must not be very interesting if I can’t come up with 25 things about me.  See also #2.

I Has Socks

5 02 2009

Well, almost.  After many, many, many… many false starts, I finally got the hang of knitting on double pointed needles.  It actually took me giving up on socks and trying a hat to figure things out.  Side story: every year around this time I make baby caps for the NICU at a couple of local hospitals.  I made this hat for that occasion but shortly after starting got an email not to use green or yellow as those colors would be unflattering on sick babies.  I was using the same yarn that I am using for the sock pictured below so I decided to give that hat to a friend who recently had a baby.  Hopefully the hat will fit him as he is a couple of months old and the hat was made with newborns in mind.  Alas, I do not have any pictures of the hat.

Anywhoo, back to the socks.  It felt like it took me forever to get the leg part made, but I finally finished it yesterday.  Then I went back for my pattern to learn how to make and then turn the heel flap, then how to pick up stitches from the side of the heel flap to make the gusset and decrease down to the instep.  No, it’s not as complicated as it sounds, I only screwed up in one place and was able to fix it with out ripping anything out.  I’m working the instep now after that all I have to do is the toe decreases and then learn how to graft the toe closed.  I think I’ll have it finished by the weeked.  Then I’ll have to start all over to make the other sock 🙂

It’s actually inside out so you’re seeing the purl side.

The pattern book I’m using is I Can’t Believe I’m Knitting SocksI really like the book, the instructions are very clear and they have lots of pictures.

Hope everyone out there on teh intarwebs is having a good day!!
